I am back with my second last installment of my “23 Things I Learned In 23 Years” series. I can’t believe that it’s been a year since I wrote all these lessons. Don’t worry, I wont be writing more for this year. It may be something that I do every few years. Anyway, enonugh chit chat and I will get right to it.
If it makes you happy it’s not dumb
This one I run into sometimes in my own life. I am a person who loves and loves hard when it comes to my interests and things that make me excited. I am also someone who doesn’t necessarily love the things people think someone my age should love. I love animated films and middle grade to Young Adult graphic novels/comics. I love them. They make me so happy. I don’t need to have stress and sadness in my story consumption all the time. Therefore, my belief is that if something makes you happy and you aren’t hurting anyone while enjoying that thing, it’s not dumb. There’s nothing wrong with doing something that makes you happy and no matter what people say to you it’s not dumb.
We only have this life to live, why worry about what other people think about things that make you happy? If I am going to live this life I am going to do it wholeheartedly and enjoy what makes me happy, regardless of what others think of it.
The only constant in life is change
This one is a cliche all of us have heard over and over, but I have realized the truth in it. In life we often feel stagnant and stuck, but there are always things changing around us. Whether we are moving forward or standing still, the world around us is still moving. The people we know and love are still moving and living. The world never stops spinning and that means there is always change. Not doing anything is still and choice and it still makes a change, it still does something, even if that something is nothing. We can always change things, we always have a choice, whether that choice is to do something or nothing, it’s still a choice. When you feel like there is nothing in your control and nothing constant in your life just remember that you have choices and you can always bring about change.
Enjoy what you love and don’t forget that you can count on change.
