Books I want to Re-Read (a.k.a my favourite books)

Hello friends,

For the readers out there you probably know that feeling when you’ve read a book, loved it, and are desperately wanting to re-read it. Whether it’s because you want to find things you missed, want to annotate it, or you just miss the world, there are books that need to be revisited. So, here is my list of a few books (or series)that I want to revisit.

The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien

I first read this when I accidentally stumbled into the Tolkien world in 2013. I ended up going to see the second hobbit movie, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, with my mom and a family friend because our family friend was interested in seeing it and I fell hard for the world. I had seen bits and pieces of the Lord of the Rings movies growing up but had never seen the whole thing. As a result I bought all the movies and got the books as a Christmas gift. So in the summer of 2014 I read The Hobbit.

I definitely loved it. Of course I was in the thralls of my excitement about the world, but I really enjoyed the plot and the characters. I also really enjoyed the writing in terms of how fleshed out the story was, I was always interested in fantasy but The Hobbit really pulled me in.

As a result I am really interested in going back into this world and seeing what I missed. I also want to go back and annotate the book and see what my favourite parts are the second go around.

The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien

As the previous explanation would probably have hinted, I read these three books right after finishing The Hobbit. I went right into the Lord of the Rings and devoured them fairly quickly. A main reason I’m interested in going back through this series is because I did read them so quickly the first time. When I get back into these for the second I want to take my time and annotate them to find my favourite quotes and scenes.

The Gentleman Bastards Sequence by Scott Lynch

This is a series about a group of orphans who are trained to be expert con-artists and thieves. Though their goal is to simply steal from the rich, the political climate of the world they live in makes things a bit more difficult and they end up with higher stakes than they bargained for.

This is definitely one of my favourite series and if you follow me on Instagram or know me well enough you will know that it is at the top of my life of favourite books ever. There are three books currently out in this series, The Lies of Locke Lamora, Red Seas Under Red Skies, and The Republic of Thieves, and they are all my favourites. I am one of those crazy people that have 2 different editions of the same series (but that is a story for another day). So, I desperately want to go back and re-read all three books and annotate them, because I didn’t annotate them the first time.

The Adventure Zone: Here There Be Gerblins by The McElroys and Carey Pietsch

This is a story, based off a podcast by the same name, about three unlikely adventuring companions who go on an adventure to find a mysterious item. This story is based on the family’s Dungeons and Dragons game play. I also wrote a review on my first impressions.

I will be 100% here and say that I have already read this book twice. It is a new favourite and makes me so happy for so many reasons. I just love all of the McElroy content. In July the second installment of the graphic novels will be coming out and I will no doubt read both of them when I get the second one.

If you haven’t guessed it I would highly recommend checking out any of these. They are on my favourites list for a reason.

What are some of the books you want to re-read next?

Sincerely,
Alex
