Hello friends,
I am back with another book review! This time it’s for a very sweet and fun graphic novel.
The Book
Title: Nimona
Author: Noelle Stevenson
Published: May 12, 2015
Genre: Graphic Novel
Synopsis (from Goodreads):
“Nimona is an impulsive young shapeshifter with a knack for villainy. Lord Ballister Blackheart is a villain with a vendetta. As sidekick and supervillain, Nimona and Lord Blackheart are about to wreak some serious havoc. Their mission: prove to the kingdom that Sir Ambrosius Goldenloin and his buddies at the Institution of Law Enforcement and Heroics aren’t the heroes everyone thinks they are.
But as small acts of mischief escalate into a vicious battle, Lord Blackheart realizes that Nimona’s powers are as murky and mysterious as her past. And her unpredictable wild side might be more dangerous than he is willing to admit.”
My Thoughts:
Nimona was an adorable little story. I loved that it was so mysterious but so fun at the same time! Nimona (the character) was fiery and fun and confusing. There were moments when I had no idea what she was doing or why, which was definitely not a bad thing. Lord Blackheart was my favourite character. He is considered the villain but he is far more than that and surprised me along the way.
The story is about truth, finding truth, science and magic, and what happens when forcing determine what people believe. I desperately wish for a sequel to this graphic novel. The art was beautifully vivid and fun and exciting. There were so many twists and turns in this story and the art expressed it wonderfully. I also absolutely loved the subtle LGBTQ+ representation, though I wish it had been a bit clearer.
All I can really say about this story is that it was adorable and fun and you should definitely read it!
