When Abi’s father marries Max and Louis’s mom, their families need to start over again. Abi finds herself the middle child, she is expected to share more than she is happy with. The family moves into an eerie, ivy-covered house, that is big enough for all of them, but for the children, strange things start to happen in the house. Abi finds herself tumbling into a book and Louis finds himself a friend in a mysterious creature. Abi, Louis, and Max will have to work together to understand the magic and save each other.

This book was really sweet. We followed a character after my own heart, and probably most bookworms heart. Abi is a booking loving young girl who suddenly becomes a middle child and a sister to two boys. I really loved how the blended family was represented. It was hard and complicated and the kids really had to work at getting to know each other.

I also really loved the magic aspect of the story. I liked that there were hints of magic here and there until it was so obvious you couldn’t deny it. I liked that the children grew to love each other by working through the magic and understanding it. I loved how the story was laid out and written. The house was a true character in the story and I think that was very smart choice and was done very well. I really liked how eerie and unsettling the house was.

I felt that the story did wrap up a little quickly for my taste, but it was enjoyable. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes soft, green magic, family dynamics, and a little bit of mystery.
