Mid Year Freak Out Book Tag

I can’t believe it’s already half way through the year. Who could have imagined? Well, since everyone is doing this and it is the middle of the year, here is my Freak Out Tag.

Best Book You’ve Read So Far

Winter’s Orbit was a book I read in January and am still thinking about. Honestly I am doing a reread already. I was lucky enough to get an eARC copy of the book and fell in love. It had all the things I wanted in a book.

Best Sequel You’ve Read So Far

The best Sequel I’ve read so far was Captivated by A.C. Thomas. Honestly it was a fun space adventure with a very grumpy character and a very bubbly character. I loved the plot of needing to travel across space to help and save a whole population of people. I just loved how fun this was and how the romance didn’t overwhelm the plot but was also a very important part of the book.

New release you haven’t read yet but want to

A Master of Djinn is a book that I am so hyped for! I loved some of Clark’s novellas and can’t wait to read this next one. Alternative, steampunk Cairo with magic? Yes please! I have currently started this one and can’t wait to finish it!

Most Anticipated Release for the Second Half of the Year

The Heartbreak Bakery by A.R. Capetta is a book I am so excited for! It looks so queer and fun and magical! Also its about baking! I mean, I love baking themed things and this just sounds so so good. I can’t wait!

Biggest Disappointment

Everyone is going to hate me for this but Heartstopper. As much as I found it adorable and cute and sweet, it was not the 5 star read everyone that talks about it thinks it is. It just wasn’t as amazing as I expected it to be.

Biggest Surprise

Biggest surprise is a hard one. I think I’m going to have to pick Winter’s Orbit again. I expected to love it but I didn’t expect it to stick with me the way it has so far this year.

Favourite New Author (New to you or Debut Author)

P. Djeli Clark is an author who I only started learning about this year and let me tell you I am hooked by his alternate history Cairo. A Dead Djinn in Cairo was incredible and I am in the middle of A Master of Djinn and am totally in love.

Newest Fictional Crush Favourite

I don’t really have fictional crushes so I’m just going to add in a second favourite character here. I’m going to say Omar from Royal Rescue by A. Alex Logan. Omar is kind and caring and incredibly loyal. He is also the epitome of an amazing and supportive friend. Through all of Gerald’s fears, realizations, and concerns Omar is there to support him no matter what. He is understanding and just an overall great person.

Newest Favourite Character

Here I’m going to say Kiem from Winter’s Orbit by Everina Maxwell. I mean, Kiem is complete disaster bi energy and I love that for him. He is passionate and driven, even though he has made his mistakes. He is also kind and gentle. He does everything to make sure that the people he cares about are happy and safe. Of course, the man needs to speak his mind more, but overall I love him simply because he is the best kind of mess.

Book That Made You Cry

I’m going back to a book that I previously mentioned here but Royal Rescue by A. Alex Logan made me cry. Not sob, but some tears were shed. The reason it made me cry was that I felt like it was the first time I saw myself in a character. I had finally seen a character that had similar views to me and how I felt about life and the world. The book was everything I wished I had seen growing up.

Book That Made You Happy

Check Please! Book 1 was a spur of the moment read and it was adorable and sweet. It was just so wholesome that it made me happy and I would recommend it to anyone that wants a sweet read.

Most Beautiful Book You’ve Bought So Far This Year

Oh boy, this is HARD. I think I have to go with A Master of Djinn. I mean, just look at that cover!

Books You Need To Read By the End of the Year

There are a few here that I need to read, but I am going to say The Name of All Things. I read A Ruin of Kings last year and loved it so I really need to continue the series.

Favourite Book Community Members

Oh! This is hard. There are so many! Just to name a few Crini, Quinn @theromanticace on Instagram, Alex Logan, who are all doing some really amazing things and always have some really great recommendations.
