Tag Tuesday – The Fantasy Tropes Book Tag

Hi friends, I’m here today with a book tag! I found this tag on Worlds Unlike Our Own and it looked very fun for a fantasy lover like myself! This tag was created by Onespeculiar. I thought this would be a lot of fun to do, so here we go!

The Lost Princess – A book/series you lost interest in half way through.

I’ve got to say, I didn’t lose interest in this series half way through, but I lost interest after the first book. That series is A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin. I will be honest here, this book just didn’t do it for me. I read Game of Thrones and it was okay, but it wasn’t keeping me engaged. I found it a little boring and just couldn’t get myself to keep reading the series.

The Knight in Shining Armor – A hyped book/series that you were swept up by.

I don’t read a lot of hyped books. I tend to love books that are indie or haven’t been talked about a lot. But one book that had some hype that I really loved was A Master of Djinn by P. Djeli Clark. I really loved the alternate history fantasy vibes in this book. The magic and mystical creatures were incredible and I really loved the story overall.

The Wise Old Wizard – An author that amazes you with his/her writing.

An author that really amazes me is D.N. Bryn. This Bloody Pearl really hooked me and gave me so many emotions. The world was so fantastic and interesting. I just loved everything about the book and I am so excited to read the rest of their books. You should definitely check out This Bloody Pearl if you like murderous sirens, pirates, and queernorm worlds.

The Maiden in Distress – An undervalued character you wished had a bigger storyline.

You know what, at this point I don’t think I have a character like that. I can’t think of a character that I think needed a bigger storyline. I think a lot of times the characters just work for me, regardless of if they are really focused on in the story.

The Magical Sword – A magical item/ability you wish authors would use less.

Oh this is another hard one! I feel like the magical item/weapon that will stop the big bad is something that I don’t need to see more of.

The mindless villain – A phrase you cannot help but roll your eyes at.

Hmm, this is a tough one. I mean I could do the classic “they released a breath they didn’t know they were holding”. But, I feel like most phrases are fine. I haven’t read any that really have turned me off of a book. Maybe that will change in the future but right now there’s nothing I can think of.

The Untamed Dragon – A magical creature you wish you could have as a pet.

This is an easy one for me and I would have to say a dragon. I’ve always loved dragons and it would be so cool to have a little baby dragon to raise and have that dragon eventually grow into a huge beast of a creature. I love dragons and I think they would be so cool as a pet.

The Chosen One – A book/series you will always root for.

Oh, wow. Alright, a fantasy book that I will always root for. I think I’m going to have to pick The Monster of Elendhaven by Jennifer Giesbrecht. I adore this dark, creepy, fantasy novella. It is all the things I love wrapped up into one. Magic, horror, creepy vibes, and dark characters. This is a book that I have read a number of times and will probably read over and over again.
